Yay for Fall Weather!!

Fall weather has officially arrived in Texas. The air is cool, the wind is furiously blowing and all is well.

Today the wind is blowing so hard, it almost knocked me off of my high heels. It's very similar to the biting wind that always seemed to blow in Abilene. I remember walking in between McKinzie Hall and the Music (now Education) Building and feeling like I was in a wind tunnel.

The only drawback to the wind is the fact that I live in an apartment complex that has an abundance of oak trees. As a result, I am awakened many nights to the sound of acorns hitting the metal roofs of the carports. I also tend to step on every acorn on the ground between the apartment and my car. In tennis shoes, it's not a problem; but in dress shoes, it feels similar to stepping on a rock with my bare feet. Stupid Acorns!

Fire Drill

Today, our building conducted a fire drill in which all eight floors had to evacuate using 1 stairway.

I couldn't help but remember the victims of 9/11 as I calmly made my way down 1 flight of stairs and headed outside. What was it like in the towers that day? What thoughts were going through people's minds as they made their way down 70 flights of stairs?

How would I have reacted in that situation? Would I have been calm? Would I have waited to help those that were left behind or unable to make it down the stairs on their own? Would I have instead raced down the stairs to get to my friends and family?

I am filled with sorrow for the families and friends of the victims of 9/11. I have weeped for their situation, but will hopefully never know what it's like to lose someone to a senseless act of terrorism.

5K Here I Come

Well, I've finally convinced myself to run a 5K. For those of you who know me, running is NOT my forte. I love playing sports, hiking, and being outside; but to run just to run...NO WAY!

Until now!

I've really been trying to get in shape over the last couple of weeks. I've started eating healthier foods and smaller portions. I've also excercised here and there, but never run.

I've seen the benefits of running. A girl I went to high school with started running and now has the body of a bodybuilder (with the help of weights as well). So...I've decided that running a 5K will give me a reason to train and run everyday.

Donny has agreed to run it with me. Now my only decision is whether we should run one next month or wait until February for the Cowtown 5K. I'm thinking we should probably run the one next month so that the goal is in immediate sight. What do you think?

"I know you don't believe in Fairy Tales, but if you did,
I'd want to be your Knight in Shining Armor."

I never thought a movie titled The Diary of a Mad Black Woman would touch me like it did.

If you've never seen any of Tyler Perry's movies, I highly recommend them. Tyler Perry is a Black Gospel Playwright and was originally inspired by Oprah to write down his story.

Hook 'Em Horns

A couple of weekends ago, Donny and I attended a UT tailgate party and football game. The whole experience was new to me. The only collegiate football games I had previously attended were those of TCU and ACU. While they were a lot of fun, nothing compared to my experience at UT.

After a quick stop at the Round Rock outlet mall, we arrived in Austin and the tailgating began. My "adopted" parents and their friends definitely know how to tailgate! Not only do they have a full meal, they also bring along their T.V., portable satellite dish, microwave, and blender. We had a blast!

To top it all off, one of my sister's friends, and a former member of our youth group, was able to get Donny and me free tickets to the game. The seats were in the freshmen section, but who's going to complain about free tickets?

Needless to say, Donny and I had a GREAT time at the game and can't wait to attend another one. Here are some pictures!

Tailgating at it's finest (notice the T.V. on the lefthand side of the picture).

Tatum Raye has arrived!

Donny's niece arrived on Friday, a little early but in perfect health. We got to go see her on Saturday and spend some time with Donny's family. Here are some pictures from our day with Tatum.
